Stylish People of the Past

Remember the stylish people of the past, we loved nothing more than to see those we idolised in a magazine or on TV screen and we would be in awe! They were sexy and oozing style!

Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen (the ‘King of Cool’), to name a few.

Movie stars and starlets dressed to impress, providing us with our ‘daily dose of eye candy’! We couldn’t get enough.

My two all time favourites, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe, wow! I still to this day don’t tire of seeing and reading articles about them. I am no expert on their lives I am just more intrigued by their stories. Sixty one years ago Elvis Presley released Heartbreak Hotel, I wasn’t even born then but 10 to 15 years later I was listening to that song and many more of Elvis’ records. His dark smouldering looks and piercing blue eyes, coupled with his voice and his moves! Who couldn’t fall in love with Elvis?

Marilyn with her childlike voice, blonde hair, bombshell drop dead looks and body; she was gorgeous! I so love to see a black and white shot of her; some show a sultry confident actress and others capture a shy, less confident young lady who seems lost, what do you think she was looking for? I wish she had found it maybe then she wouldn’t have died so young!

Hollywood seemed the place to be born; you could have been an actress  or actor, partying and fun times were the image…..it always had appeal, the Hollywood lifestyle glamorous, romantic and full of wealthy people having fun times…..!  We all know this wasn’t exactly how it went but hey, the nostalgia.

Who were your favourites and why?  Would love to hear.

Why is Weight Loss so Slow…

I was driving along today thinking about how slow my weight loss was going! Then I thought to myself I put this weight on ‘one chip at a time’ this wasn’t done overnight!  It took a lot of bad food choices to get to where I was, so why then do I think it will be a fast road back.  I need to remember those binge times and be so ‘happy and grateful’ for ME!  I am making the change and yes, its slow but as they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day”!  Onwards and downwards!

I have to be patient, my weight was born of the food choices I made and the amount I ate.  I am retraining myself, learning to eat healthier and make better choices, more organisation and food prep!  It’s a long way from where I was at before, as I said ‘one chip at a time’ !

Every day I need to think before actioning! I notice the effect of some foods like bread for instance, it upsets my tummy, go figure, I love bread and would eat it most days, I never realised it was the reason for my bloated stomach! Wow having a ‘good ole sanga’ can ruin my whole day!

I am learning each day what is good for me and making much better decisions. I still have cheat’ days if I want – my choice, but I find it’s much nicer to do ‘fakeaways‘ from the Weight Watchers App, homemade pizza; fish and chips, coleslaw or a healthy stir fry – all great alternatives and easy on the budget.  Hubby is even happy to eat my fakeaways!

So onwards and downwards – that’s my motto – taking time to learn and listen to my body, change my options, make great choices, be determined and remember this happened one chip at a time, my journey backwards will happen, one better decision at a time too 🙂 and I am losing weight, it’s fantastic – 13 kilos down now – still a long way to go but I am 13 kg smaller than when I started this journey!

I find reading and listening to ‘success stories’ helps with motivation and keeping me on track.  I love seeing the changes and reading the journey, there is always something in those stories which ring true with me as well.

My WW app has the Connect Community, which I have spoken about before, some great people, motivating stories, funny moments and just good old support and encouragement from people who know!  They get it and are there too!

Check some of those stories out right here…..http://www.weightwatchers.com/us/success-story

I reckon the next step in my Weight Watchers journey will be to check out – and try the Weight Watchers Aussie Farmers Direct – Fresh Box!  Shop FAIR. Eat FRESH. Made EASY.
Check this special out from Weight Watchers – $30 off your first order……..https://shop.aussiefarmers.com.au/campaign/ww-offer

Struggling!

Struggling!!!

Update!  I am struggling!!

I am stuck – Struggling!  Stuck, going round and round, dropping and then adding weight and guess what?  It’s far quicker adding than it is dropping ….who would have thought!

It’s not the program I am on, cause I have proven I can lose weight using it!  Its me, why? That’s the question I ask myself daily, why?  Why can’t you stick to what you started? Why do you think you can eat shite and still lose weight?  Why are you not cooking good wholesome meals anymore? Why?

I can’t answer any of them, self-destruction?  Not sure, I love the program – Weight Watchers on-line…I have been successful so far with a 12 kg loss!  What more could I want?

Okay, I have had my little rant and I need to get this stuff sorted, pre-planning meals and eating for the right reasons!  I can do this……I am successful, I am 12 kg lighter than I was when I started it, I have more energy and hey, clothes are starting to look better on me too.  I just need to dig in and stay focussed on what I want to achieve.  A healthier and happier me, that’s all 🙂

You know, I have researched a little on why we do this to ourselves, when we find a program that’s working, we self destruct!

So, there is so much information out there on this exact question, one of the best I came across was How to Stop Self Sabotaging what resonated with me in reading the first page was the following statement!

“The solution?  First, you must take a long-term view of the weight loss process.  Patience and persistence are key.  Look at this as a cross-country road trip.  It’s not a mad dash to the next rest stop so you can turn around again.  Some days on the road trip are going to be beautiful and bright; some days will be overcast.  That’s life.”

I also believe I havent taken the time to celebrate &/or congratulate myself on my journey so far, 12 kg is amazing!  Simple as that! I have done an amazing job…..why is that so hard for me to understand…..no reason, it just is and the more I remind myself of this achievement the more I realise how awesome this is!  I need to stop seeing it as a struggle but more a challenge I am more than ready and willing to combat…!

I know I can do this and in saying that, I understand its an ongoing process, it will take time, it is a true change to my lifestyle and, I can take moments within this journey to go off course, to not follow the daily plan and guess what?  I will still be okay as long as I get back on track….that’s all, stay true to the journey I started!  The reason’s I started have not changed – but I am human and I will fall on and off the wagon, as such, every now and again, it’s okay!

So if you, like me are in the process of losing weight and struggling! Be kind, congratulate yourself and remember – this is a marathon, not a sprint…..good luck and I will keep you update on my struggles, but I would  love to hear your stories and how you stay focussed and on track or how you celebrate your successes? Let me know and we can struggle or celebrate together 🙂

OMG! Is Tupperware still around?……

I just went to my first Tupperware party in at least 7 years! Wow, I was really looking forward to going as well, couldn’t wait to see the new range of products and check out the colours..!

Amazing how the products you remember or maybe still have, morph into a more sleek, modern version of themselves!  Some in fact come full circle!
When I think Retro I often think Tupperware…it’s weird but I do!

Throughout the ages Tupperware has been there!

I remember as a young stay at home Mum often being invited and feeling obligated to go to a Tupperware Party out of pity or support for a friend!  With dread in my stomach knowing I couldn’t really afford a damn thing! But of course, buying in support again and then, why not, offering to have a party too…of course you want your friend to get the best discounts!!  I am sure you all remember these scenarios.

I have to say though, I secretly wanted to buy more and have my  kitchen set-up totally with Tupperware, from my pantry to my storage cupboards to my baking utensils and spice containers, I wanted it all and I wanted it in beautiful matching colours………………….being on one wage though we just couldn’t afford it and not wanting to make Hubbie feel bad, I would make out I didn’t care in the slightest and played up the ‘victim’ part of the story, you know, the one that has me saying “I just had to help Debbie or Sharon out, they always say yes to these parties and now no-one is going, of course I am going to go to help them out!  Don’t worry though I won’t buy anything, maybe an ice tray or something like that!” You know how that story goes…..

Hubbie was always nervous on the eve of the party, worried I would be sucked in (his words) and buy ‘stuff’ we don’t need and can’t afford or low and behold agree to a party at our house!

I couldn’t wait to let him know I hadn’t buckled, I had stayed strong and no! I hadn’t spent our next pay packet on Tupperware nor had a I booked a party at our house……go me!

He was so proud on these occasions!

On the odd occasion I may have both spent and booked a party the customary line about “had to help Debbie or Sharon, they were so close to getting a free or a 1/2 price item and only needed some more $’s spent + someone to have a party”!  “You know they will help me out when my party is on and I’ll keep it low-key, not too much of a fuss”!  Again you know the drill, those often ‘saving’ throw away lines – porky pies (white lies)  as I like to refer to them!

Not to be scotched at though, Tupperware was the making of some ‘stay at home Mum’s’ those that were particularly looking to make an income when returning to the workforce was not an option for them; and they were very successful woman….the most famous of those being Brownie Wise

So where did it all start?

Tupperware’s inventor Earl Silas Tupper’s  first business went bankrupt in the Great Depression. He then got a job at the DuPont Chemical company, where he developed the plastic containers with spill-proof, airtight lids, and in 1946 began selling them at hardware and department stores and private distribution companies. They were also giveaways with cigarettes!  Never happen in this day and age!

But despite earning design awards for the Wonderbowl, Tupperware sales were“dismal,” due to the bad reputation of plastics. Their value needed to be demonstrated.

It all turned around because of Tupperware parties. The parties got started by Brownie Wise, a sales executive and single mother who rose to fame, before being ousted by Tupper in 1958 and written out of the company history. Wise is due to get the Hollywood treatment, and will be played by Sandra Bullock.

Tupperware main pic. A woman holds three Tupperware containers while standing in front of a group of women seated in a living room during a Tupperware party circa 1950.Photograph by Hulton Archive/Getty Images

And then there was Dixie!! Now she threw a very different type of Tupperware party….wow, never seen Tupperware on show like this before..!!  Check it out below…..

So that’s my wonderful Tupperware memories and if your wondering; did I buy stuff at the most recent Tupperware party, yes, I did…..I absolutely love the bento style lunch range and who can beat the gold old round food storage bowls! I also bought the larger chopping container, it’s awesome.  The colours are amazing, love them…..they are so recognisable and attract so much attention in the staff room at lunch time……maybe I should have a party..what do you reckon????

Super Sonic Snoring…

Super Sonic Snoring – the most important question Retro63 and hubby have at the moment, to sound proof or not? That is the question?

Let me set the scene, peacefully tucked up in our new King Size bed, Egyptian sheets, pillowcases and doona surrounding us – cloud 9 you could say….then, it begins!

Mum and her Super Sonic Snoring!! This is not your usual snoring I am telling you, this is out of this world, loud beyond words and consistent, once started it rarely stops until she wakes the next morning…I seriously don’t know how Dad used to sleep through it!  Possibly the industrial ear muffs on the bed head were a giveaway in respect of my question.  Where some people have a set of pink fluffy covered handcuffs my Dad had a yellow industrial pair of earmuffs proudly hanging from the bed head!

I used to think it was partly in jest but I now know he was totally serious!

The three choices:-

  1. We move out?

  2. She moves out?

  3. We sound proof her room?

Pros and cons

  • we hurt her feelings 🙁

  • the room looks ugly 🙁

  • resale value decreases (if we don’t sell to family with the same issues or a drum playing teenager!) 🙁

  • we get a peaceful night’s sleep 🙂

  • resale value increases (we sell to a family with the same issues & they have a drum playing teenager!) 🙂

Maybe I need to do some more research before jumping to a sound proofing conclusion?

What do they say online? There is an absolute abundance of info on snoring and sleep problems – from the quirky to the very serious solutions, sleep problems and snoring are ‘not a laughing matter’ and are quite possibly signs of more sinister problems as stated on many of the websites!

Let’s have a look at some of these interesting remedies & info sites on this condition:-

Snoring often goes unnoticed as a disease. One who snores or the one who shares bedroom with such a person remain disturbed due to snoring but most of the time, it is not taken so seriously as to take measures to stop it. But snoring is a risky habit! Seventy five percent of people who snore suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. It means their breathing gets disrupted for short periods when they sleep. This increases their risk of developing heart disease. Therefore, it is essential to treat this condition not only because persons who snore do not feel refreshed on getting up in the morning and have the risk of developing heart disease but also because it poses risk to their marriages! In most of the cases, spouse of a snoring partner sleeps in a separate bedroom! So, if you snore, take help of these home remedies for snoring and save your marriage as well as heart. Please view full article at Rapidhomeremedies.com

So as noted above this should be taken seriously – to medicate, operate or home remedy, that should be the next question I suppose?

Treatments:-

Rapidhomeremedies.com recommend the following – all home remedies – check out the website to get ingredients and recipes for each of the below, worth a try I am sure 🙂

Homemade Saline Nasal Spray; Peppermint Oil; Ayurvedic Ghee; Olive Oil, Sage Herbal; Nettle Leaf Tea; Thyme Essential Oil; Eucalyptus Oil; Mint Tea; Goldenseal; Ginger; Garlic; Essential Oils Blend to Cure Snoring; Tongue and Throat Exercises; Sleep Pattern & Lifestyle remedies.

Medical

you can purchase these items or, as per below…………

Dentists – Who would have thought??

My research led me to an article which includes the following info – check the full list of information here

Dentists specialising in dental sleep medicine (or oral sleep medicine) supply and fit oral appliances to prevent snoring, usually in the form of a mandibular advancement splint (MAS). This device forces the lower jaw forward, increasing the air cavity at the back of the throat. They’re very effective – as long as people can tolerate using them.

So do I, talk to a dentist who specialises in ‘dental sleep medicine’? May be an option, or get some Rapid Home Remedies?  Or, check out the info hubby sent me the other day….. link   it has some merit (sound proofing) but again the wall won’t look that wonderful 🙁

I think we’re going to try the soundproofing…..simply order on-line and it is delivered to our home!  Hubby can install and I’ll tell Mum its insulation to keep her room nice and toasty warm for her, see no feelings hurt in the making of this sound proofing….!  Works out for all of us, lets hope!!!

I’ll keep you updated on the outcome, hoping to have great news on top of some restful and quiet sleeps…..Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My Top 5 All Time Movies

I don’t know about you but the below movies are My Top 5 All Time Movies favourites…I am sure I could add a couple of other ones in there (well actually I did…read on) but off the top of my head, these are it!

All different themes and stories but each of them have made me either laugh or cry, become angry or sad or all of these feelings at the same time!

The movies have starred different actors with favourites in each; Tim Robbins, Tom Hanks, Patrick Swayze, Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and both Madeleine Stowe and Aidan Quinn…! 🙂

5. Shawshank Redemption

In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted of a double murder, even though he stubbornly proclaims his innocence. He’s sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis Red Redding (Morgan Freeman), picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden (Bob Gunton), sadistic guards led by Capt. Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown), and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. But Andy does not crack: he has the hope of the truly innocent, which (together with his smarts) allow him to prevail behind bars. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, doing the books for Norton’s illegal business schemes and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. In exchange, he is able to improve the prison library and bring some dignity and respect back to many of the inmates, including Red.

Based on a story by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption was the directorial debut of screenwriter Frank Darabont.~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

4. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field.

Full Review by Peter Travers @ Rolling Stone

3. Dirty Dancing

Spending the summer in a holiday camp with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor Johnny Castle.

Full Review by CommonSense Media

2. Silence of the Lamb

A psychopath nicknamed Buffalo Bill is murdering women across the Midwest. Believing it takes one to know one, the FBI sends Agent Clarice Starling to interview a demented prisoner who may provide clues to the killer’s actions. That prisoner is psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant, diabolical cannibal who agrees to help Starling only if she’ll feed his morbid curiosity with details of her own complicated life. As their relationship develops, Starling is forced to confront not only her own hidden demons, but also an evil so powerful that she may not have the courage – or strength – to stop it!

Full Review by Peter Travers @ Rolling Stone

1. Blink

Blink is a 1994 neo-noir thriller film starring Madeleine Stowe and Aidan Quinn. Director Michael Apted was nominated for a Crystal Globe award for the film at the Karlovy Vary International Film.

Director: Michael Apted

Movie blurbs compliments of Wikipedia

So why are they on my favourite list you ask?

No 1. Blink – it’s not  a very well-known movie, I can’t find it on Netflix but have been able to download a copy from the internet. I love the story line and the romance between Madeleine Stowe and Aidan Quinn, electric!  Love it and a bonus it has some great songs from The Drovers as well – check this one from the start of the show; checkout the trailer too, you may find you like it as well 🙂

No 2. Silence of the Lambs – Wow!  What can I say, love the movie and Jodie Foster is awesome in it, with some great scenes….

The one where Clarice first meets Dr Lecter; the one where he escapes and the one where Clarice is in the house by herself in the dark with a murderer and his captive, the dog and the well, just love that part!  Check out a favourite scene package.

No 3. Dirty Dancing…say no more – love it for the fun, romance, message and Patrick Swayze dancing. Check it out, you can’t tell me you don’t like it either!  My absolute favourite though…drum roll……….LOVE IT!

No 4. Forrest Gump – “Run Forrest Run”! So many interesting moments in this movie – references to historical events together with some great moments.  Who could forget when Forrest asks with raw emotion if Little Forrest is smart?  heart breaking!

No 5. Shawshank Redemption – who could forget the quote “swims through a river of shit to come out clean……” see the trailer here; amazing movie with a great story, love to still watch this one with my hubby.

Lastly though I would like to make mention of two action packed favourites as well, The Bourne Identity and Taken – love the movies, fast paced and action packed, maybe I could have made it my top 7???

Child of the 60’s – Retro63…

Child of the 60’s – My Life, My Family & My Fun – the beginning:

1963 A great year – my life starts!  A child of the 60’s lover of all things American: TV shows and movie stars.  Mickey Mouse Club, loved Annette Funicello and couldn’t get enough of Spin & Marty!  Growing up watching, laughing and loving Lucille Ball, OMG how funny was she and how lucky were Americans, she was their’s and I was jealous!

By the time I was 9 I was watching Tom Jones in his weekly TV show and life was good, loved his voice and still do; I couldn’t get enough TV was fun!

I watched I Love Lucy, My Favorite Martian, The Flying Nun and many more.

Family time, watching TV and drinking milk coffee drinks with my grandpop, hanging out in his shed through the day was another fun thing to do!! Wow, now that was a serious shed! Not sure how everything fitted in there without the shed falling over? Funnily it was much later in life that I realised there was a label for my Pop and his shed addiction…..he was a hoarder, not a small time hoarder but a big kick ass type of one!!!

And Life goes on:

Growing up in a family of females – the matriarch, my grandmother, my mum and older sister; being the Aquarian observer I worked out very early to do whatever My Nan asked us to do, she was in charge, whether we liked it or not!

Swimming, basketball and music got me through my teens; with no father figure we were taught to ‘just get things done, using our own strength and nous!!  I had a very determined and independent attitude!

A mum at an early age, family meant and means everything.  4 children and 6 grandchildren later I have lived a very busy and fun life!  Being the first one for 3 generations to have been married for 35 years and counting, more to come on that later, maybe?!

I have evolved and grown through many stages; the stay at home mum, with 1 car to share with my husband; the part-time mum, working around child care and school hours and finally the full-time worker mum!

Luckily for me by the 4th child my husband was self-employed and he worked around her school hours, becoming a stay at home Dad!  Now there are some stories out of that one and yes I will talk about them soon enough.

Life continued – let the fun begin:

And finally, the chapter of my life I never thought would happen!

Full time worker, Mum, grand mum and my mother’s Carer!!  Wow a big title with a lot of responsibility, can I do it, am I doing it?  All I know is my motto in life is getting a full on work out!!! Have fun and be happy 🙂

It’s in this new phase I thank god for my sense of humour and more importantly my ability to laugh at myself, because each and every day I come across something I was not ready or prepared for!

Yikes, so Retro63 a lover of American TV shows; music, sport, family, life and fun if I haven’t grown up by now, I am certainly growing up very quickly right NOW, happy days! (Richie Cunningham and The Fonz) loved that show too 🙂

My TV Mums

My favourite TV mums, were any of them yours?

So I loved a lot of TV mums as I was growing up, all for different reasons and for different times in my life, did you too?

When I was little, they had to be the mums who were kind and caring with a wonderfully pleasant sense of humour; in my teens I was still liking the nice ones but found I was looking for more in the humour department; then as a young mum I was looking for inspiration in my ‘TV Mum’!

Then my children turned into teenagers and my need for a role model ‘TV Mum’ changed direction, she needed to be mean and funny, whilst remaining caring! Not too much to ask for? 🙂

Early childhood

  1. Lucy Ricardo was probably the funniest mum. Innocently trying her hardest to be successful and always trying to trick her husband Ricky so she could get on his show. From stomping grapes, to packing chocolates to selling vitamins Lucy has had several strange side jobs.  She also managed to raise a son who was a musical genius, little Ricky, and be great friends with her neighbors Fred and Ethel. Lucy was creative, entertaining and a favourite mum for many years and I still love to watch re-runs, my oldest grandchildren have had to watch episodes as well!
  2. The Partridge Family – Shirley Partridge (Shirley Jones) she seemed so cool and easy-going and her children were all so talented and happy.  Music, travelling and comedy combined to make her and the show another favourite of mine and oh, how I used to dream of being in that family!

In my Teens and as a Young Mum

  1. Family Ties – Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter) Elyse Keaton made the role of a working mum look almost too easy. As the mother of Alex (a young Michael J. Fox), Mallory, and Tina, Elyse spent each episode of Family Ties trying to juggle the life of a working mum. She was able to work from home as an architect which made the working mum role look a lot easier and we all know that’s not the case and particularly in that era? I loved her caring nature, her total commitment and undying love for her children/family, she was a big favourite!
  2.  Cosby Show – Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad) Clair Huxtable taught us many lessons on motherhood over the 8 years The Cosby Show was a comedy hit. As Cliff Huxtable’s lovely and beautiful wife, and mother to their children Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and Rudy. The classy Clair had a successful career as a lawyer, teaching her children good moral values and making sure they were all well-educated all the while putting up with and managing her comedic husband’s behaviour!

As a Mum of teenagers… I needed the big guns though!!!

  1. Home Improvement – Jill Taylor (Patricia Richardson)As wife of Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor (played by comedian Tim Allen), Jill spent most of her time keeping her accident-prone husband in check, she had her hands full with their three boys Brad, Randy, and Mark. She had a beautiful home and excelled at caring for her boys but she lacked any skills in the kitchen!  I found this refreshing, why were women expected to be good in the kitchen? I loved watching each and every episode!
  2. Roseanne – Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) Who could forget Roseanne? While often not the caring mother type, she never failed to teach a lesson, sometimes the hard way, but nonetheless she got the job done. Living in a low-income often troubled household, Roseanne made the best out of every situation while her dysfunctional family, led by husband Dan (played by actor John Goodman) children Becky, Darlene and D.J.,  challenging her every step of the way!

As an older Mum and just for the fun of it!

  1. Absolutely Fabulous -An absolutely brilliant show with its uncensored bad behavior and satirical humor, the series features Edina and Patsy, two hard-drinking, drug-taking, completely outrageous and  selfish middle-aged women. Their sometimes cruel humor focused on the hypocrisy of today’s society; Edina’s moral and conservative daughter, Saffron was constantly dismayed by Edina and Patsy’s bad behaviour. Hilarious though and a favourite – I am sure my more sarcastic moments can be attributed to watching way too many episodes!

So these were my favourite TV Mums. Hope you enjoyed the memories and like me are reminded of how each of the TV mums in their own way may have influenced us over the years….

p.s., Just got the Absolutely Fabulous Movie for a Christmas Present too, make sure you watch it!

Sad Heart

How is it you can be surrounded by people but still feel alone?  I have always wondered and never understood!

Life is so complicated and busy – time spent with family and friends can be stressful for many reasons and some of those will remain private or never spoken about.

I have dealt with moments like this in my own way and in fact really dislike it when people notice my sad heart!  My mood was not meant to be noticed nor acted on – I just needed to be left to do what I was doing and to not communicate.

Once noticed it is hard to not let your emotions out!  That for me is the worst case scenario…! A moment of weakness, the guard being let down – and in my brain it equates to emotional and vulnerable, neither appealing to me!!

Why?  I wish I knew why in those moments of ‘being found out’ it becomes too hard to deal with…..to the point of being angry your mood or demeanour have been questioned, even with the best of intentions?  I don’t get it and never probably will?!!

The mind is amazing, the more I try to understand it the less I seem too!

Mental health illnesses are rampant with many people either suffering and living with this daily or for others it can be episodic.  Our fast paced, technological age, together with 24/7 news cycles and instant communication access with anyone at anytime are a potent mix; a mix often leaving us exhausted, feeling inadequate and emotionally drained!

In the past we would watch a good TV soap opera to get our dose of drama or feel good moments and then switch channels or switch off!  Now it seems soap opera’s are acted out daily, minute by minute on social media and for what ever reason leave others feeling insecure or lonely….asking themselves why their lives are not as pretty, interesting or action packed as those depicted in their feeds!

social-media-bannerThe new epidemic, Social Media Sickness!  It wont be long before we are hearing of diagnosed cases and the medical research world will be abuzz with remedies and medications – millions of dollars will be made by all, doctors, pharmacists, medical companies and psychologists together with vitamin companies, self help bloggers and media groups in general.

Life as we know it has changed and in my opinion not always for the best!  So if you are feeling lonely even when surrounded by people or not, just talk, say what’s on your mind and if you cant then, write, let it out on paper or computer – life isn’t an easy road, nor does it come with instructions!

You make the best of your world, your life, your family and your fun – it’s who you are, it’s what you think and feel, let them know – it’s not weakness to reveal yourself but strength and confidence! Your life is individual, amazing and yours – just be you!
