Child of the 60’s – Retro63…

Child of the 60’s – My Life, My Family & My Fun – the beginning:

1963 A great year – my life starts!  A child of the 60’s lover of all things American: TV shows and movie stars.  Mickey Mouse Club, loved Annette Funicello and couldn’t get enough of Spin & Marty!  Growing up watching, laughing and loving Lucille Ball, OMG how funny was she and how lucky were Americans, she was their’s and I was jealous!

By the time I was 9 I was watching Tom Jones in his weekly TV show and life was good, loved his voice and still do; I couldn’t get enough TV was fun!

I watched I Love Lucy, My Favorite Martian, The Flying Nun and many more.

Family time, watching TV and drinking milk coffee drinks with my grandpop, hanging out in his shed through the day was another fun thing to do!! Wow, now that was a serious shed! Not sure how everything fitted in there without the shed falling over? Funnily it was much later in life that I realised there was a label for my Pop and his shed addiction…..he was a hoarder, not a small time hoarder but a big kick ass type of one!!!

And Life goes on:

Growing up in a family of females – the matriarch, my grandmother, my mum and older sister; being the Aquarian observer I worked out very early to do whatever My Nan asked us to do, she was in charge, whether we liked it or not!

Swimming, basketball and music got me through my teens; with no father figure we were taught to ‘just get things done, using our own strength and nous!!  I had a very determined and independent attitude!

A mum at an early age, family meant and means everything.  4 children and 6 grandchildren later I have lived a very busy and fun life!  Being the first one for 3 generations to have been married for 35 years and counting, more to come on that later, maybe?!

I have evolved and grown through many stages; the stay at home mum, with 1 car to share with my husband; the part-time mum, working around child care and school hours and finally the full-time worker mum!

Luckily for me by the 4th child my husband was self-employed and he worked around her school hours, becoming a stay at home Dad!  Now there are some stories out of that one and yes I will talk about them soon enough.

Life continued – let the fun begin:

And finally, the chapter of my life I never thought would happen!

Full time worker, Mum, grand mum and my mother’s Carer!!  Wow a big title with a lot of responsibility, can I do it, am I doing it?  All I know is my motto in life is getting a full on work out!!! Have fun and be happy 🙂

It’s in this new phase I thank god for my sense of humour and more importantly my ability to laugh at myself, because each and every day I come across something I was not ready or prepared for!

Yikes, so Retro63 a lover of American TV shows; music, sport, family, life and fun if I haven’t grown up by now, I am certainly growing up very quickly right NOW, happy days! (Richie Cunningham and The Fonz) loved that show too 🙂

Mum_Law_Sibling_Inheritance

Mum_Law_Sibling_Inheritance………OMG Inheritance issues before Death!?

Adulting has been very hard lately – taking on responsibility for Mums care was an easy decision but comes with a full set of tasks needing to be done daily; working full-time I am starting to become a great juggler and in saying that I am finding the responsibility does make me stop and take time in my busy day for personal matters, booking appointments, following up on things and checking in on Mum and my family!  In the past I’ve been known to completely ignore my personal life when at work and wasn’t known to be very organised when it came to personal appointments and follow-up for myself or my family, work came first, Mum raised me with a work ethic to match hers!

While on annual leave (3 weeks away from the business of managing people and clients, yah!), I grew up even more, one reason being I had my 53rd birthday, haha,  but more importantly than that I needed to realise my new role also came with a lot of negative comment and innuendo due to being in control of my Mum’s money! Wow, wow, wee – I wasn’t prepared nor expecting this, not from my one and only sibling who had relinquished Mums care to me and organised that I be her power of attorney!  You what?  Now you think I am ripping Mum off?

Needless to say I’ve grown up quickly and luckily I had from the beginning kept receipts for everything she purchased and payments, I am no bunny!  I have never wanted to be estranged from my family nor had I imagined this would ever happen, but there you go, like a witches brew and with the right ingredients you have a toxic mix of:-

jealousy, greed and lies!  Not a pretty picture but one that is played out in many families throughout the world on a daily basis. Witch V2

I learned this in talking with experts in this area and through internet research, wow – I was definitely naive, I always thought ‘if you are doing something for all the right reasons and with the right intent’ then you can’t go wrong! Wrong, this was obviously a very immature statement when dealing with people and money, or should I say future inheritance funds!!!

I now understand many people do start to count their chickens before they hatch, or should I say in this case their dollars before their loved one’s death!  Blunt I know but true in so many cases and definitely in ours!

Forgotten are the loved ones and their future or current needs, wants and wishes, how totally sad and disappointing we need to discuss issues like these with them when in fact we are saying to them, “just hang on a minute whilst we have an argument around what will be left of your money when you die, as there are some concerns you could spend too much of that making yourself comfortable and happy, hence cutting into the inheritance you will leave behind”, sorry for any inconvenience!…..wrong, wrong, wrong!!

Mum is happy, loved and respected and with the support of a great family lawyer, some great advice and good record keeping on my part (go me) she will not have to have this discussion again and can just ‘live’.

I am banking (pardon the pun) on her being around for at least the next 10 years and possibly 15 if she behaves herself, she’s not totally in agreement with me on this as she says at 81 she’s tired and thinks she may have earned a rest! That’s what she says, but I have used some well-meaning bribery and her love of her newest great-granddaughter to entice and guilt  her into being around for as long as possible or at least until the baby is 10 years old (she’s currently 1), I have complete faith in her, she’ll do it and happily!

Well that’s my ‘adulting’ moment for the time being, turned 53 and all hell broke loose, shite balls!  All is good and I can go back to believing the world is a great place, full of wonderful people…..mostly!

Thanks for listening and would love to hear any comments, feedback or stories of similar situations….

Where’s Retro63?

Where’s Retro63? Wow seems like an eternity since I posted last!  Mother’s Day, poignant that was my last post – it has been a very frantic time since then…..as mother’s time often is!!

Wheres Retro63_packing style pic

We are on the move – our beautiful ‘story book’ house has found some new owners who love it as much as we did, yah 🙂

Off to the ‘blue house’- I am positive this name will stick even if we re-paint the exterior render!!

Mum is starting to get excited, she can almost feel her sewing room – its that close 🙂

Husband is hanging out to watch what he wants and when he wants too in his lounge room and youngest daughter will be able to hibernate in her room without the ‘noises’ of daily life interfering, great I suspect for when she has come off a night shift!

So apart form packing, working and more packing I haven’t had time for much else!  Which is a real bummer, we have the biffo of Hilary and Trump, the passing of Mohammed Ali, the Australian federal election – Turnbull vs. Shorten (they are both short – en something, not sure what though!), maybe it is Tony Abbott? So much happening and so little time to make comment & post!!

Okay, I’ll get this done and then get back into my posts….writing from the blue house’ 🙂

Where's the time gone. Professional movers pic

Do you remember this wonderful episode!! Love it 🙂 Ma and Pa Kettle, Professional Removalists
